Our Story · Since 2022

A neighbourhood cafe,
built on slow mornings.

Arsemia started as two friends, one well-worn espresso machine, and the stubborn belief that a quiet cup can set the shape of a whole day.

Where it began.

Mia and Rowan met queueing for coffee in Stockbridge. One roasted, the other baked. For a long time they talked about opening something of their own — small, warm, honest, the kind of place you would be happy to be a regular at.

In spring 2022 the shop at 26 Morningside Road came up. We signed the lease the following Tuesday.

What we believe.

That specialty coffee shouldn't be intimidating. That a plate of eggs is worth doing properly. That a good cafe is a good neighbour — kind to its suppliers, generous with its guests, and gentle on the morning.

Everything we serve comes from independents, almost all within a few hours' drive. We know our bakers and our growers by name.

What matters to us

Three quiet rules.

01

Small producers, always.

Beans from independent roasters. Bread from independent bakers. Eggs from an East Lothian farm. We tell you where everything is from, because it matters.

02

Space to linger.

No two-hour table limits, no laptops at weekends. Enough chairs to settle into, music quiet enough to talk over.

03

Honest prices.

We pay our team properly and price fairly. The flat white costs what a flat white costs — no tipping on card, no surprises.

Visit

Come in. Stay a while.

Walk in for a flat white, book a window table for brunch, or settle in on a quiet weekday for a long filter and a book.
